Memorial Day Camping Trip

Man did we every have a blast!  We drove down to the Lumber River campgrounds on Friday morning and camped out Friday and Saturday night.  We went for some really fun rides throughout the weekend, but the highlight was a sixteen mile ride on Saturday that left us all pretty sunburnt and tired.  The return trip was pretty exciting too, with two flat tires that turned a two hour drive into six...  But we leave no one behind and we got through it all because we stuck together.  That's what family does, right?  Read on for details, or click here to see the pictures.

On Friday night we went for a very exciting midnight right (literally) and we couldn't see squat.  Good thing that horses can see in the dark pretty well.  Then Saturday we got up and had a nice cowboy style breakfast - eggs, grits, bacon and a few other kinds of meat.  Then we saddled up for a really long ride through the Lumber river state park.  The ride was absolutely gorgeous and extremely hot!  In fact, poor Lucky got a bit dehydrated after that ride.  He's fine now though, but he didn't feel too good that night.

Sunday morning was another great breakfast thanks to Marcus.  That is the breakfast I took some pictures of (see link above).  After that we went for one last ride down to the water hole where we got to run through the water one last time.  No really, Jessie was flat out running through three feet of water on Buddy.  It was a sight to behold.  Mind you, she was not the only one because Michelle, Melanie, Marcus, Tiny, and Mary Jane also got in on that action.  That was a blast.  The best part was on Saturday when this one teenage girl quipped that she "really don't want to get wet" as she tip toed with her horse through the water hole.  Well, that was all the excuse Jessie, Michelle, and Mary Jane needed to run past her and soak her and her friend.  That was a million dollar photo for sure.

Sunday afternoon we packed up camp and headed out but we soon met trouble.  One of the dually trucks in our convoy got a flat so we had to slow it way down and find a service station to get us a tire and change it.  Then we when finally got to Raleigh our trailer ended up with a bad valve stem in one of the tires, so then we had to change that one.  By then we were exhausted and famished, so it was off to Ruby Tuesday's for a nice steak dinner to reward ourselves.  It was sad to finally have to say goodbye, but we're already planning our next trip.  I tell you what, nothing beats spending time with good people, riding good horses, enjoying God's good earth, and breathing that good clean air.  Life's just too short to miss out on stuff like that and at the end of the day those are the memories you'll look back on and smile about.  In case you missed the link to the couple of pictures I took, you can see the pictures from Lumber River here.

We at EE Stables really hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years. We held our annual pony rides at the same location as last year, off Hwy 50, and it was great. The weather was wonderful (remember last year when it was cold and raining?) and the visitors were really great. We have a lot of new students starting this year and we are so excited to have them and the rest of our great students out there at the barn. We've also got some new instructors out at the barn, some of them are even past students of ours! Read on to learn more about them and the other great things we've been up to!
