Ben

Hi there!  Can I lick your hand?  Ok, maybe later?

My name’s Ben and I was born in Wyoming on May 30, 1998.  (I’m an Aries).  When I was about 10 months old I moved to Asheville and I’ve been all over NC since then.  I moved to EE stables in October of 2006 and I love it here!  The people are so friendly and the other horses are great too. 

I love to snuggle and be brushed…and of course, lick your hand!  For the most part, I’m just a big cuddly puppy dog.  My main passion in life though is food.  I love to eat.  I’ll eat anything – anytime – anywhere. 

I have tried many kinds of riding, including huntseat (English jumping) and barrel racing.  I was even a school horse for a while and I taught children how to ride.  I’m still not sure what my favorite type of riding is, but I do enjoy the trails – I especially like eating whatever I find along the way.  My mommy says I should stop that, but when she’s not paying attention I like to sneak a snack.

My goals for the near future are to learn to back out of the trailer without being scared and to get back into shape so I can try barrel racing again with my new mommy.  She promises me she’ll take it slow and make it fun, so I’m excited about that.  She also said something about building some jumps.  I’m not sure I understand why we’d jump over something that we could just as easily go around, but hey, I’m a pretty laid back kind of guy.  Whatever she wants to do is fine with me.

I do look a little different from the other horses.  I’m what you call a piebald overo – that means I’m a black and white paint horse and I’m easy to spot in our pasture, even from a long distance away.  (The farmer across the street thinks I look like his cows.)  I’m registered with the American Paint Horse Association under the name “Paleface Playboy,” but I got the nickname “Ben” after Gentle Ben, because I’m so sweet-natured.  You can learn more about the types of paint horses at www.apha.com
